On Small Business Saturday, Arroyo launches campaign prioritizing an Economy that Works, Local Government that Delivers, and City Built for Everyone
LANCASTER, Pa., Nov. 30, 2024 – Jaime Arroyo, local nonprofit leader and vice president of Lancaster City Council, launched his campaign for mayor of Lancaster City today. Alongside his wife and son, Arroyo announced his candidacy at an event in Penn Square. Coinciding with Small Business Saturday, his remarks focused on growing the economy equitably, fostering safe and thriving neighborhoods, and improving the efficiency of local government.
“I’m running for mayor because I believe in building a stronger, more prosperous Lancaster City,” Arroyo said. “Our residents deserve trusted leadership to guide us toward a future defined by opportunity and improved quality of life.”
Peter Barber, president of Two Dudes Painting Co., joined Arroyo for the announcement.
“Jaime has demonstrated an understanding of the power and impact of sound economic development on the continued strength and growth of our city,” Barber said. “Importantly, he also understands how critical it is for all people in our community to have the opportunity to contribute and share in this. I’m confident that this commitment to equitable economic development will lead this city to even greater heights.”
Other speakers included Amanda Bakay, city council president, and State Rep. Izzy Smith-Wade-El.
“Our people want leadership. They want a government that works for them. For the decade I’ve known him, Jaime has been a leader, an entrepreneur, and a public servant,” Smith-Wade-El said. “I’m excited for the people of Lancaster to get to know him as I do — someone who will have your back, whatever the next few years bring.”
Arroyo’s vision for Lancaster City includes:
- An Economy That Works: Driving equitable growth, empowering small businesses, and creating opportunities that strengthen the community.
- Local Government That Delivers: Leading with integrity, accountability, and action to meet residents’ needs and build trust in the city’s future.
- A City Built for Everyone: Ensuring safe streets, quality housing, and a community where every person has the tools they need to succeed.
Arroyo serves as vice president of Lancaster City Council and CEO of ASSETS, a nonprofit supporting women and BIPOC entrepreneurs in starting and growing businesses. He has led Lancaster City through pivotal moments, including navigating the global pandemic, addressing local calls for racial equity, and managing community investments from the American Rescue Plan Act.
Arroyo has lived in Lancaster for most of his life, after moving to the city from Puerto Rico at the age of two. If elected, he would be Lancaster City’s first Hispanic mayor.
Outside of his work, Arroyo finds joy and inspiration in his family. He is married to Linette, a registered nurse at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. They live in northeast Lancaster City with their young son, Miles.
